Want to play a part in changing services that are delivered in the local area? Two local organisations, FEAST with Us and Hampstead Wells Campden Trust are both recruiting for trustees. Read on for all of the details they have given to us.

1. FEAST With Us

a.    What is the name of your organisation and its mission (why does it exist, what does it aim to do)

FEAST With Us (FEAST), Feeding and Empowering All Sustainably Together

We aim to reduce food poverty through providing community meals using surplus food. The step up from community dining, we support people enduring food poverty to have meaningful food experiences and develop food skills. Our three charitable pillars are

  • Improve Nutrition
  • Build Community
  • Reduce Food Waste

b.    What is the title of the volunteering role(s) that you are recruiting for and a brief description of that role(s)

Volunteer cooks: to support FEAST kitchens by transforming surplus ingredients into hot, nutritious (and delicious!) meals for our service users. Our volunteer cooks are essential to our operations, and ensure that vulnerable individuals in our community have access to a hot meal every day. We have 8 kitchens to cook from, including both chef- and volunteer-led kitchens, and with the opportunity to facilitate communal lunches with our service users.

Volunteer delivery drivers: to transport either surplus food to a FEAST kitchen, or hot meals to our partner hostels. Our delivery volunteers are an essential part of our chain of help, taking the food we need to cook, bringing it to our kitchens, and delivering cooked meals to various partner shelters and community centres. We have regular weekly routes available, as well as ad hoc routes on occasion.

Volunteer delivery cyclists: to help FEAST strive towards our sustainability targets, we are looking to recruit a team of keen cyclists to transport surplus food and hot meals to the relative destinations. Our volunteer cyclists are an essential part of our chain of help, taking the food we need to cook, bringing it to our kitchens, and delivering cooked meals to various partner shelters and community centres. We have regular weekly routes available, as well as ad hoc routes on occasion.

c.    Why someone would want to volunteer with you? What difference will be made to them, to your organisation and / or the local community. Are there any other benefits to them (such as personal development, alleviating loneliness, something to put on their CV etc)?

FEAST is a lovely tight-knit community, with a strong emphasis on people development. The team is small and growing, and we aim to maintain our values and culture as we grow. We are based in North London and support other food aid initiatives, notably in Camden where are a local leader. There are many opportunities to dine with one another, as well as learn from one another using food as the vehicle to assemble.

There are plenty of reasons to volunteer with FEAST, however, some of the most frequently discussed benefits include the opportunity to meet new people from the local community, to learn new skills in the kitchens, to improve mental health and to develop personal skills. This is a fantastic opportunity to support vulnerable individuals in the local community with people who share common goals and interests.

d.    How can someone find out more and / or express an interest in your role (s)?

You can email our Volunteer Administrator at volunteer@feastwithus.org.uk, or book an introductory call with them here: FEAST Introductory Calls
