Could you help in Camden or Hammersmith & Fulham in the event of an emergency?
Good news. We are now delivering the essential training for anyone who wants to take part as an Emergency Response and Recovery Volunteer in Camden or Hammersmith & Fulham. Read on for details on the training, and the project.
The CAMERA Emergency Volunteering Programme officially launched in Camden and Hammersmith & Fulham in 2018, and we are now training the first wave of people who would like to respond in the event of an emergency.
Our experience of the emergency response to the Grenfell tragedy and the Chalcots Estate evacuation showed that there was a surplus of people with useful skills and experience, e.g. counselling, who offered to volunteer but were not allowed to help as they were not known by the local authority dealing with the situation.
The CAMERA response and recovery volunteer team aims to give an opportunity for local people to help in situations such as these.
Volunteering roles include: Emergency Centre Assistants, Donation Assistants and Entertainers
Useful skills include: Language Skills, First Aid or other healthcare skills, Counselling, Youth Work and any other skills that enable volunteers to work with local people e.g. mental health
The first phase of the training sessions is booking now. More will be announced in the coming weeks. The training is free to take part in and you will have a choice of training in Camden or Hammersmith & Fulham. You only need to attend one training session.
During the day we will cover:
- Understanding what a volunteer centre is
- Understanding the history of and need for this volunteering project
- Understanding different types of emergency reception centres
- Discussing reception and registration systems
- Understanding the different humanitarian needs and vulnerabilities
- Understanding the different volunteering roles which make up the CAMERA emergency response and recovery team
- Understanding your responsibilities as a volunteer
By the end of the training, you will be more aware of why this volunteering is needed, and ready to respond in the event of an emergency. This training will be interactive and features a mixture of Powerpoint presentation in a large group as well as exercises which you will explore in small groups.
Bookings are open now! Check out all of the training details on the Events page of our website, book yourself in, and we look forward to seeing you soon.
