More About Help That Camden Charities Need
Bucket Shaking
Orchid is a national male cancer charity focusing on testicular, penile and prostate cancers.
In the run up to Christmas they have booked four collections at tube stations and are helping to book a few more.
- Tottenham Court Road – Friday 25th November 7am-10pm
- Embankment – Thursday 8th Dec 7am-10pm
- South Kensington – Thursday 15th December 7am-10pm
- Cannon Street – Friday 16th Dec 7am-10pm
Ideally they would like someone there at the commuter times as this will be the busiest, but they have the stations all day so perhaps the volunteers could take it in turns.
Leafleting
Camden charities that are desperate to have a team of volunteers to distribute leaflets around their location to publicize their services to local residents who might not be aware of it, and who may be in desperate need of their support.
This would mostly be putting leaflets through doors – mostly on local council estates. We would make sure the group were fully briefed on the work of the charity, so they could answer any questions.
To liven up the day, we suggest splitting the group into teams and setting them challenges along the way – to get a photo with an animal, the group artfully arranged on street furniture, in a green space, with someone in uniform, at a place of worship, with a Camden landmark, etc. The team with the best, funniest pictures would then win a prize.
Food Bank
The Camden Food Bank is open for those who need their services on Tuesdays.
They don’t involve volunteers on Tuesdays because volunteers who work with the service users need to have a CRB/DBS check, but they are very willing to open up on other days of the week to enable corporate volunteers to help, by arrangement.
The work will involve packing up parcels, stock taking, re-organising shelves, checking sell-by-dates, lugging crates and generally sorting things out behind the scenes.
Graffiti Removal/Clean Streets Camden

Camden Council runs regular Clean Up events that anyone can join in.
They also:
- support those who would like to organise their own clean up event
- provide litter pickers and gloves, as well as some innovative approaches to reducing dog fouling
- provide posters to publicise your event
