Karen Landles at Exterion Media
Karen Landles, Behavioural Insight Director at Exterion Media is passionate about CSR. To support Camden charities who are considering approaching businesses, Karen designed and delivers a workshop on the practical aspects of contacting businesses: having confidence in your offering and never approaching a business as a supplicant; planning and preparing for a sales call; targeting suitable businesses; getting your headset right before making contact, having a hook and much, much more.
“It was like fireworks going off in my mind.”
“The best CSR training I’ve been to – because it was from someone from the other side of that relationship, who is so passionate about this work, so engaging and so knowledgeable.”
Office Insights Employability Workshop
The PA team from a top international company shares their knowledge, skills and experience with those who may not have the confidence to realise that this is an option for them too. The first decision the Team made was to hold the workshop at their impressive London headquarters, so that attendees would experience first-hand the modern corporate environment. Another innovative decision the PA team made was to sit among the attendees to create an informal, inclusive atmosphere. This turned out to have a big impact on the attendees as they could connect and find common ground between themselves and the PA team.
The content includes background about the business, working parents, the role of the PA, the PA job description demystified, and a section on developing working relationships which included legal rights and obligations, a discussion around professional behaviour, managing expectations and assertive tools.
“[I found it really useful] relating my skills and experience to a job description as after not working for a while I have lost confidence in my capability. Today’s workshop has restored this confidence in myself.”
“I really enjoyed the interaction of the PAs with us. All of the content was interesting and valuable.”
“It brought home to me all the stuff I used to do at work, that it wasn’t appropriate at all. It has given me confidence – I know about boundaries now.”
The PA team get to remember how skilled they are and how much knowledge and experience they have to share, and the attendees get to see behind the corporate curtain at a major private employer. At least six attendees have got jobs after attending the workshop, citing the confidence the workshop gave them as a major factor.
