Well, hello there! Volunteering is very popular this time of the year, so we’ve done another round up of what’s new in Camden and the local area.
One-off Volunteering Roles
On Saturday 16 September community food growing gardens across the capital will take part in The Urban Harvest, a day to give Londoners a taste of all the fresh and delicious food grown in the city. From harvest feasts to hands-on workshops, an annual vegetable show to volunteering, there is a wide range of ways to celebrate in London’s edible gardens and enjoy the city’s harvest. With an interactive map of gardens taking part across the city, it’s easy to find out what’s happening in any neighbourhood.
Also on Saturday 16th September event volunteers are needed for a free community event, The Cloud Nine Festival in Cumberland Market. Volunteers will help out on the day with set-up, clear down and providing information to visitors. Looks fun! Interested? Email for more info and to express an interest.
The Annual London Design Festival features more than 500 events and starts this Saturday 16th September and ends on Sunday 24th September. They are recruiting for a number of volunteering roles which you can apply for on their website. But you’ll have to be quick!
On Tuesday 26th September Men’s Cancer Charity Orchid is looking for The Great Willy Waddle Event Volunteers. It takes place in the lovely Queen Elizabeth Park and is a 2K run.
Chalk Farm Food Bank is looking for Supermarket Collection Volunteers to be based in Tesco Finchley Central for a large collection on 6th and 7th October.
Ongoing Volunteering Roles
Cocoon Family Support is looking for Postnatal Peer Supporters to provide supportive services to families affected by perinatal mental health issues (e.g. Postnatal depression). Cocoon provides many services including peer support and counselling. We are looking to expand our peer support services and recruit an exciting new team of peer supporters to further enhance the support we can provide for families across the borough.
Peer supporters are parents who have themselves experiences poor mental health during pregnancy or early parenthood, who are now well and can offer time to support others. Volunteers will offer a listening role as well as signposting services and organisations that may be helpful to a parents individual circumstances. This support will be offered in a group setting on on a one-to-one basis in the community (e.g. Playgroup, children’s centre).
Eye Heroes is the UK’s first child-led campaign to fight avoidable blindness. They are looking for Workshop Volunteers to train children aged 8-12 through interactive workshops in schools to become eye health champions, and inform adults in their communities about eye health and the benefits of regular eye tests.
POhWer is looking for Volunteer Advocates to give support to their qualified and trained advocates to help people who find it difficult to find and understand information, speak up and get their voice heard when important decisions are being made about their future. Advocates help to empower people so that they have a say and role in shaping their own lives. Paid advocates support clients on a wide range of complex issues and our volunteer advocates add real life experience and skills to our service and support our advocates to help clients with non complex issues.
Rock’n’Roll Rescue Charity Shop in Camden Town is looking for Shop Volunteers to help with everything from sorting donations, dressing the shop front and manning the till.
Holborn Community Association is recruiting is a vibrant community centre that is recruiting for three volunteering roles: Two roles at Millman Street Centre WC1, IT Support Volunteers, and IT Tutors over 55 who speak English, Bengali or Sylheti, and IT Tutors at 1A The Arts Centre on Rosebery Avenue.
Toynbee Hall is recruiting Youth Mentors to volunteer in Camden schools during school hours. You will be matched to a student in a school near you, and there is an accredited training programme with this role.
Elfrida Rathbone Camden is looking for Employment Mentors / Buddies to make a real difference to the life of a person with a learning disability. They are looking for confident, motivated people to work alongside ERC in ensuring equal access to employment for people with learning disabilities. Training and support will be provided.
King’s Cross Story Palace is a two-year Heritage Lottery Fund project led by Historypin and the Building Exploratory. They aim to create a community-led history of the King’s Cross area over the past 100 years. They are looking for volunteers for a two roles including Community Story Gathering Volunteers and Research Volunteers.
Lauderdale House is a beautiful historic house which operates as a buzzy Arts and Education centre at the edge of Waterlow Park in Highgate. They have recently completed a major refurbishment, and are recruiting for a number of roles including Gallery Stewards / Receptionists, to answer enquiries from visitors, Educational Researchers to research the history of Lauderdale House and develop resources for educational groups, Marketing Assistants to market the learning activities that take place at Lauderdale House and School Greeters / Explainers and Lunchtime Support to support with Primary and Secondary School visits on an ad-hoc basis.
